The Seth Thomas Company was started in 1813 by Seth Thomas who lived from 1785 to 1859. He was born in Wolcott, Connecticut. The first plant was in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut, which was later named Thomaston in honor of Seth Thomas. In 1930 the General Time Company bought them out. Then in 1968 General Time sold out to Talley Industries, and they moved the Headquarters to Norcross, Georgia in 1979. But they kept the plant in Providence, Rhode Island.
In June 2001, the Colibri Group acquired Seth Thomas and then they had to shut their doors in January 2009 and file Bankruptcy. Somewhere along the way, Seth Thomas started up another line of clocks which they called 'Linden'.
Over the nearly 200 years they were in business, the Seth Thomas Tradition continued to meet the demands of the public, and it kept its dedication to maintain and exceed it reputation of quality and excellence.
