Comitti of London The Grasshopper Sea Clock S236G
A superb example of John Harrison's marine chronometer, created to allow seafarers to calculate their longitude position when navigating the high seas, circa 1790. The original clock is displayed at the Old Royal Observatory, Greenwich London.
The movement features "bar" balances coupled to the grasshopper escapement designed to overcome the motion of a ship.
Eight day gold plated fusee mechanism.
Silver plated dial and seconds track.
Mahogany cabinet with drawer for the key.
