George Washington Grandfather Clock

George Washington
C2020TCH

A superb limited edition grandfather clock that commemorates the life of the First President of the United States of America, George Washington 1732-1799.

This unique tall clock has been made in the English Colonial “Roxbury” style, created by Simon Willard, one of America’s finest clockmakers, circa 1790.

The solid mahogany cabinet is veneered with selected flamed grain mahogany veneers and extensive use of satinwood cross-banded inlay. The base panel features hand made marquetry depicting Washington’s ancestral Virginia home, Mount Vernon.

The break arch pediment is highlighted with satinwood veneered pierced and blind fretwork. The cabinet stands on ogee feet and features fluted quarter columns to the trunk and “Corinthian” pillars to the hood. The hood is removable to allow for movement adjustment. The cabinet is hand rubbed and waxed to achieve an “antique” patina.

The clock has a unique hand painted dial depicting Washington’s life and battle scenes. He is illustrated leaving home for military service, in full military dress as the commanding General of the Continental Army and being sworn in as the First President of the United States of America in 1789 at the Federal Hall in New York City.

The vessel in the arch of the dial rocks with the swing of the pendulum and depicts “Washington crossing the Delaware River” leading the Continental Army before he surprises and defeats the English and Hessian troops in the Battle of Trenton 1776. The scene is based on the painting by Emanuel Leutze, circa 1851.

Each dial is signed by the artist, Alan Asher, and features a copy of Washington’s elaborate signature.

The 8 day movement is of the finest quality, playing Westminster, St. Michael or Whittington melodies. It is cable driven and regulated by a temperature compensated pendulum. The chimes may be set to silent running. The movement also features automatic chime sequence correction and beat setting.

The George Washington is an outstanding example of the art and craft of one of the world’s finest clockmakers, Comitti of London. A limited edition of only 100 pieces ensures that this timepiece will become a collectors clock sought after by future generations.
