Vienna - 2007CH
The
Vienna is a rare example of a floor standing regulator
of the Biedermeier period, circa 1880.
Kaiser Frederich III
established the oldest Guild of Clockmakers in Vienna
in 1451. The Charter and Royal Patronage provided
the stimulus that over the centuries established Vienna
as the leading center for clock making in Europe.
The Biedermeier period
in the 19th century gave rise to a unity of art forms,
including clocks and quality of workmanship that are
still appreciated today.
The walnut case features
book-matched burl and figured veneers inlaid with satinwood
edgeline. The beveled edge of the door is decorated
with cross-band satinwood veneer and carved capitals.
The Palladian style pediment features hand carved
decoration. The base has a large drawer and turned
bun feet.
